Living in the 18 k's, envisioning the 20's.

As people might be thinking a few seasons back, 'What would life in the 18 K's be like?'. With the end of the 18k mark, probability soars high to get into the 19th within a few moments. And the ebb and flow of the recent tide has left people quizzing again 'What would life in the 20's be like?'. The context does not touches upon monarchy, colonization, technology, relativity theory, universe or politics either. Its the bulls that have been licking numbers in the past few weeks. Sailing around the 13k and 14k mark depicted 'India Shining' and equity holders were generously happy with the way their investments have been surging. The trend continued for a couple of months and the sensex pendullumed within a proximity of 500 points on either side. But 13s and 14s have been history as if the benchmark existed in an era of similar numbers. 14 to 15 was quick, 15 to 16 was quicker, 16 to 17 created history and 17 to 18 was sheer momentum. Now the bulls are eyi...

Taming Glory!

The euphoria and the megalomania surrounding the Indian victory over arch foes- Pakistan seems to be extended. The boys in blue would get the first ever chance to flaunt a World Cup through the streets of Mumbai. Huge celebrations have been lined up for the gladiators once they arrive on Indian soil. They would be anointed, garlanded, graced and received with honor as they have achieved a fate which only Kapil Dev’s 1983 squad were able to adhere. People might call it a silly and unorthodox form of the game that any team could win by virtue of fluke. But not to forget that India has come through to the finals by overpowering teams with indomitable reputations like the Aussies , homeland lions South Africans , the talented and energetic English side that had overhauled our men in the recently held Natwest Challenge and the fierce Pakis. The first ever bowl out game in a T20 world cup with the neighbors was a crunch game that indicated upfront the kind of nerve biting entertainment to fo...

1260. Half empty or Half full?

Ask a GRE enthusiast to take 1260 on the exam without taking it, and I'm sure he would grab the opportunity with both hands. But, preparing for the exam for almost 2 months and ending up in your higher 12 hundreds is certainly disappointing. But rather than looking at the glass as half empty, I see it as half full. I still have something to cheer upon and go strongly about preparing my documents. I have built upon a strong academic profile and have the conviction to follow my goals and a moderate score cannot stymie my yearning to admit into a top school. My volition for obtaining quality education gives me the motivation to pave a path for myself that could have only been dreamt of a decade back. A good research experience during my professional stay at Infosys would prove an icing on the cake. Only a good application can now cement my place in a reputed University for a CS course. Not being a defeatist and wearing the attitude to not hang up my boots till the last modicum of su...

Currency Conundrum: Is the Strong Rupee Good or Bad for India?

preserving. ___________________________________________________________ History has been unkind to Canute. The 10th century king of England was so tired of his fawning courtiers that he took them to the shore and commanded the waves to roll back. It was to be a demonstration of the limitation of his powers. But Canute in popular perception is the man who tried to turn the tide and failed. Today, India's finance minister P. Chidambaram and Y.V. Reddy, the governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India's central bank, face Canute's predicament. In the public mind, they seem to be trying to reverse an inexorable inflow of dollars and its consequence -- an appreciating currency. Once traded at 47 or 48, the rupee now hovers at 40 to the dollar. Observers call it the fastest appreciation of the Indian currency in three decades. Is the rising rupee good or bad for India? What impact will it have on the global competitiveness of Indian firms? Should the RBI or the Finance mini...

ICL. The craze is about to begin!

The formation of the Indian Cricket League has been setup on the footmarks of successful private football clubs and county cricket clubs in England. The prospects of the game withing a cricket-crazy country seems inspiring to the eye. But the eventual success of the club would depend on the quality of players contracted and willing to be a part of the novel idea. Moreover, BCCI the hitherto undisputed board that manages Cricket in India was responsible for managing and funding the game. The revenue of the board surpasses any other playing nation in the world. And therefore, the insecurity amongst the members loosing a major chunk of their revenues to the ICL have adopted a caveat to players endorsing ICL that limits them to be unprobable for national or infact state tournaments throughout their lifetime. A profound threat to cricketing heroes and superstars who have become rolemodels and icons for the younger generation. Moreover, the ICL is definitely not the destination for such icon...

The Power of Blogging!

Everytime I sit down to write something that could be beneficial for the readers, I eventually end up to some confusing diary notes that boggle me down when I peruse through them sometime later. So I have do have some pity for the readers who fortunately or unfortunately, willingly or unwillingly, by virtue or inadvertently found a link to my page and had to bear the stick. Hitherto I was bludgened to write about social, philosophical and psycological issues which are no longer gonna be a part of my curriculum. And moreover I take a solemn pledge to ignite the mide of the readers who this time around have fortunately turned to the blog, even if I have to copy content from other successful bloggers and post it to the Kid's space [:-)]! Quite recently I saw a book on the stands - "Blog Wild". Quite interestingly it caught my attention and I sat down to read the contents. And appalling to my consternation, the guy has synthesized facts and tries to inform readers about what...

Enroute to freedom!

Fettered by the chains of circumstances, I had to wear a facade of ignorance and malinger my chores at work. After having been met my destiny the road ahead is visible and the clouds of darkness shroud until now seem to have disappeared. Life looks so rosy and open to a million opportunities and possibilities. I feel unleashed by the tyranny of superiors and have the courage to carve out a way for myself. Things might seem vague at this moment but once I am certain to have grabbed my targets that still lie distant, the hidden mysteries would certainly be revealed. Amen!

Sanjay Dutt - Munnabhai or Khalnayak?

Who would forget the macho man playing Munnabhai twice and winning hearts allover the nation. The brilliance of the actor is reflected in his ever inspiring performances nevertheless he turned 48 on 29 th of July, 07. The birthday would have not been a magnanimous party rather a dull and pensive moment for the man himself besides his kith and kin. With the decision pending for his trial indicted for amassing assault weapons and found suspicious in the 93 Mumbai blasts, the actor if found guilty would have been booked under the Arms act and undergo 5-10 years of RI. Finally, on the last day of July, 07 the judgement headed by Justice Kode found Sanjay Dutt guilty and sentenced him to spend 6 years behind bars. Moreover, the film fraternity is shocked by the news alongside his huge fan following. Prima facie , the fate of the filmstar is in jeopardy . He might have won heart of millions with his " Jaadu ki jhappi ", but the justice had different views althroughout . ...

Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect - that is, on reasoning and other cognitive skills.

Since evolution of mankind and its metamorphosis into a capable and shrewd living organism the surroundings have played an inalienable role for man. The society in which an individual dwells reflects the outlook of the individual and shapes hiss approach towards life. The living society is indisputable a major considering factor that entrust upon a man’s intentions. But does one’s society always dissuade an individual’s intellect, i.e. its reasoning and cognitive skills? I would contrast the statement propounded b the author. The role and significance of society on an individual is paramount. But society does not always impediment an individual’s intellectual growth. The intellectual growth of an individual may prosper or stall depending on the relative social background. One may flourish who is a part of a modern and non-insular society whereas somebody who has been living in a society where issues like AIDS and sex-education are still considered a taboo, he may be restricted in his m...

As prices go up, so does demand.

An interesting article from the Economist. Worth preserving. Not many economic papers start with a quote that suggests the authors will “be assured immortality, professionally speaking, and rapid promotion while still alive.” Here, it may just prove true. Robert Jensen and Nolan Miller, two Harvard professors, have shown the actual existence of an elusive economic construct which has so far only existed as a gleam in the eyes of theoretical economists: a good for which demand goes up when prices rise, and falls when prices go down. These “Giffen goods” show up in every introductory economics textbook as a freak case when the law of demand fails. Legend describes the Irish potato famine as a possible example: as the price of potatoes rose, people were so poor that they started substituting potatoes, a dietary staple, for meat and other unnecessary luxuries. The Irish consumed more potatoes as a result. The trouble with this example is that Ireland was having a famine. The rising potato ...

The power of Kalaam.

APJ. Ignorants across dont be mistaken that for an acronym in the Bombay Stock Exchange amidst the bullish markets. Rather thats a even soaring name instilled within the heart of every youngster in India brimming with confidence and envisaging India to become a truly developed nation by 2020. Thats the kind of rejuvination that the outgoing President has imbued into our future generation. He has been an epitome of unparalled veracity and unprecedented commitment who has been the centripetal force to wake up an entire sloth nation towards the path of enlightenment. Apart from the encomium to be deservedly bestowed on our beloved President, he has been India's missile man. He was the superpower behind the indeginous Agni missiles and the Pokharan nuclear tests that grappled the world's attention and highlighted India on the globe. A highly qualified citizen had huge admiration for the young blood and more often than not makes a point to get into a healthy discussion with them and...

The Masjid Mania

The military attack by Pakistan on its indigenous Lal Masjid has taken a lot of stick from the chauvanic Islamic pundits. But the audacious act by President Musharraf, whether or not goaded from US or China should be commended upon. The president has taken a first ever courageous step to thwart the malign intentions of extremists residing within the country and using creed and religion as a major agenda to fight against humanitarian causes. But the major setback came when the Al-Qaida protagonist al-Zhawari launched an verbal attack against the president and his forces describing their effort as atrocious and un-Islamic. He openly confessed that this brutal deed can only be repented by Musharraf's blood. Although such vacuous threats would have little or no effect on the President and his forces, but the country can in now way remain ignorant from the valiant efforts and courage displayed by the extremist group. Moreover, with support from major superpowers like USA and UK it would...

It is an artist and not the critic who gives the society something of lasting value.

The world has been privy to a gargantuan aesthetic creations devised by the i nnovative and novel creators - the artists. Be it the awe-inspiring temples of Khujarao, the ever-lasting creations of the Michaelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci or the intoxicating musical notes by the legendry Mozart. They all have been successfully in creating an ever lasting impression on the generations that followed and will continue to inspire the progeny for many more decades. But who should actually bag home the credit for the ostentatious display of art - the artist or the critic? Definitely, the artist is the one who has been involved in creating these magnificent pieces of art. He is the inceptor of the innovative and novel ideas that have created history. The vivid and lively colors infused onto the canvas by a painter or the imagination of the writer penned down to a story, the emotion and feelings of a poet given the shape of a poem or the passion of a musician recorded onto a tape are the creation...

Allocating funds to immediate or long term social ameliorations?

In the recent past, the improvement in economic conditions of many developing countries is commendable. Economies are growing at an enormous pace and competing with the superpowers. With liquidity in abundance and nurtured supply of resources, economic problems are a passé for the bourgeois. But has this been reflected to the entire workforce of the nation. Going by the analysis, a major 18% population in the developing countries is still below poverty line. A lot needs to be achieved at the social front for many nations around the world. The development bias has led to many social abuses like child labor, prostitution, illegal trafficking or organs, hazardous diseases like AIDS and many more unlisted. It is despicable to let the sufferers lead a life of misery. Many government institutions and NGO's are playing a noble cause in ameliorating the problems. On the global front CRY, WHO and UNICEF have already succored billions of victims. Funding the immediate problem cannot be negle...

Defending your ideas makes you discover its real value.

The competition in all segments of life has turned the face of globalization. Enteurepreneurs from different realms have utilized cutting-edge technology and incorporated unprecedented business plans to emerge as leaders in respective fields. But would the success and diversification around us have been possible if the thinkers would have executed their plan of action in isolation without getting into a debate or objection for their plans of action? Its indeed a proven fact that ideas jostling agsinst conter arguments tend to look up to a broader scenario and provide a holistic version to the objective. Sustenance in isolation is not possible in todays competitive world. One cannot overlook the counter effects of objectives and persist with one's own view. Its crucial to team up and analyze different aspects of the opinion from different individuals. There might be a possibility that we rule out the inevitable while incorporating a plan which could be pin-pointed by the critique ot...

Do Specialists have an edge over the Jacks?

The technological advancements during later half of the 20th century has revolutionalized the world. There has been a massive leap in the perspective of skills or techniques acquired by an individual or a thing. The specialists have been replaced by generalists who are indeed the jack of all trades, althought they might be master of none. I advocate that in the modern era we have to have an insight about a lot more things happening around us, rather than concentrating on our sole discipline or field of work. Globalization and technology has shrunk the world in terms of size. The indegenous products in a market are now being challenged by imported goods that provide performance and cost compatibility. The mobile phones that were initially used to communicate to a distant acquaintance is now a source of non-stop music and can capture important moments in your life just throught a click of a button. This has been realized by the local producers who inturn have played smart and swirved dir...

Life's a roller-coaster !

Millions of times I have made an earnest effort to unravel the mystery behind a LIFE. Conduct a survey all around the globe and try to figure out the rudimentary ingredients that would imbue a sense of satisfaction in them. There would be vivid opinions based on individual criteria. Most of them would be unrealistic, surpassing their wildest imaginations and trying to attain the pinnacle of their fervor . I had always dreamt of realistic visions and slogged to accomplish them. The almighty has been beneficent until now and to be on the optimistic side expect him to shower the blessings upon me in a similar fashion. Amen! Realized a little late in LIFE that the easy path chosen by me would not fulfil my expectations that I have piled up on the stack. Things would have been much more simplistic if I would not have bunked my english lessons at school or not messed around with my teachers. But I guess its never too late. I am doing respectably good with respect to millions. But if comparis...

Do luxuries prevent us from being Strong and Independent?

The rise of technological advancements has produced numerous scientific inventions that one would have not evolved in the figment of imagination some two decades back. The simple gadget like a remote control has revolutionized the way machines are handled. The kids being mollycoddled by luxuries is a concern for the parents allover the world. The physical labour done has been reduced manifolds. But are the present day luxuries the sole impediments in the path of an individual attaining strength and independence? The excessive use of gizmos and gadgets for our daily chores has indeed led to fitness concerns. The daily jog in the park and a little bit of exercise is an obligation for the teenagers. Kids turning overweight, courtesy the double-cheese Mc.Donalds hamburger along with Coca Cola is a common site in all neighbourhood. The problem is not only with the kids. Even young men and women face acute joint problems in their early thirties. But we have benefited manifolds from the luxur...

Should laws be flexible to take account of circumstances?

The constitution has provided us with the three stout conglomerates - the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. The effective governance of these bodies are the rudimentry ingredients for a nation to grow and flourish. The judiciary is inevitably the closest to the yeoman. The laws imposed by the judiciary are indeed socialist and irrespective of any regional, communal, cultural or economic bias. But should the laws be flexible to take account of various circumstances, times and place? A flexible law structure would ensure that there is little or very less injustince being done to the victim who would have been a scapegoat of malacious circumstances. It would take into consideration a deluge of factors before arriving to a conclusion. Notwitstanding the accused might get a reprieve and all charges enthrusted upon him might get rejected. But the primariy concern would be to keep our corrupt society isolated from the misuse of offered resiliance. To maintain proper law and order ...

NRN As President Would be a shame. The statement itself is Shameful!

I completely disapprove to the malign comments fired upon NRN as we fondly call him. He has been the torch bearer for the Indian software industry. The growth and progress that we relish today is through a huge contribution from this magnanimous gentleman. The sheds as he calls the government schools today are indeed a bitter truth prevalent in the Indian society. He himself might have passed out from a government school but that does not mean that he should relish his days of yore. He himself has experienced numerous difficulties in life. The comments made by him just reflect the shoddy education system for the pauper and altogether his deep concern. His unflagging attitude gives him the position where he is today. Quite few of you allover the country know the charities sponsored by NRN and Infosys. His unostentatious magnanimity speaks loudly for himself. All human beings are fallible. One innocuous comment cannot elude the love and respect that we all Infoscions have for NRN. Hereto...

Get Set Goa....

Ever since the advent of 2007 Infosys has had a magnanimous approach towards it gargantuan employee base. I am not trying to elucidate about a salary hike or increasing onsite opportunities. I am indeed referring to the large number of long weekends provided at a stretch. Planning to venture for some adventurous activity over the long weekends would ultimately end up being a fiasco. But finally on the 16th of March we were able to cling to the opportunity of exploring the ever-exciting landscapes of Goa. For people working in a software organization like ours, these little moments of joy come along sporadically. And eventually we wanted to grab the opportunity and make out the most of it. Moreover, the excitement to get nasty along the sandy beaches of Goa mired me to anxiety. We were a bunch of 7 Finaclites from the 10th October, 2005 batch. After allocation of projects we were deported to different locations where Finacle had spread its wings. It was time for a reunion which we all c...

Lost in a Brand

I still remember the day when I saw my name alongside other batch mates who were offered to work with unarguably India’s finest and most respectable software giants. I was paramountly bewildered and realizing the fact mired me to anxiety. To hurdle through a series of daunting exams followed by an intimidating interview embedded a sense of pride amongst me. The euphoria surrounding the fact that I would work alongside the best brains in the country was extremely exhilarating. But it’s been a long time and the feeling just gravitates with the passage of time. The brand name created by a group of young entrepreneurs who augured success and achievement through sheer performance and building upon a value system unprecedented, is truly remarkable. The freedom granted to all employees without considering their background, culture, geographical location and religion stands above the rest. The hierarchy is confined merely to the nature of work undertaken and does not reflect by the individual’...

The Gentleman’s Game

The game played and followed by only a miniscule population until 19 th century has spread its wings across the globe. It was a game popular amongst the English and the Australians. The exciting rules of the game enticed nations to adopt the game and the results are ubiquitous. The first mega cricket event held on a global stage – the 1975 ICC World Cup included 6 prominent teams. The number has sharply augmented to 16 in the recently organized 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. The game has witnessed the rise and fall of many cricketing teams and legends and the history have been phenomenal. The rules and nature of the game has changed manifolds since then, but the enthusiasm and verve doesn ’t seem to fade away. The game has served as a platform for nations to unite and come together irrespective of their caste, creed, mutual rivalries and geographical boundaries. Cricket in the initial era was quoted as a Gentleman’s Game. The umpire was commensurate to a Godfather whose decisions...

Brand and Communication

Infosys DC wanted Infoscions to come forward and engage in DC Work. From facilities within the DC to Brand Building and Communication. The other aspects of the curriculum were social conscience and people & engagement. I chose Communication and Brand Building coz thats what I am looking to improve in the coming future.. Here is my nomination for the Voice of Youth, 2007. Optimistic about my presentation and looking forward to be a part of it and contribute for betterment of the DC... So here it goes.... ______________________________________________ The success story of Infosys has been privy to billions across the globe. The name that started with a few entrepreneurs trying to create disruptive innovation has created ripples in the global market. Motivation, ability and value system are all parts of the mosaic that brand Infosys is made up of. Effective communication has undisputedly been a major underpin for the humungous growth achieved. Palpable through our brand ambass...

Cholle Bhature !!!

As in Rome do as Romans do. Totally agreeable. That's what I have been doing for the past 18 months. But unfortunately Bangalore is not commensurate to Rome. Its been a long while thriving on idlis , dosas , khara baths and many such commodities(cant term them as food items) that miss out the rudimentary punjabi taste. Whenever I get back to Delhi I get so excited to visit the renowned Chotti Hatti (renowned only in our part of the city) to have the oiliest and yummiest of Cholle Bhature . The delectable pakvaan resurrects memories of school days when we used to bunk classes and rush through a plate of it. Makes one nostalgic about the boyhood days. But I am glad that the same flavour in the Cholle Bhature still exists. I have planned to visit many such dhabas and eatouts all over the city during my visit. It will be 10 beautiful days and I wanna make the most of opportunities to eat a lot and hang around with old pals. Friends and family are cajoling me to get back to ...

India Poised or Ephemeral Pleasures ?

What great achievements by India in the recent past. The multibillion takeovers by the Tatas , Ranbaxys , Birlas and many more. Sustaining growth at over 9% is commendable. Foreign investers vying to foray into Indian markets. Government eying SEZ options beacons humongous growth. Its been a resounding victory for the individuals and the nation. The passion to perform and zeal to excel is conspicuous. 2006 is mere history. Are all the milestones achieved? Will the existing market scenario coast the nation towards Development? Although Indians are regarded as a highly productive and cost-efficient force by the west, excessive megalomania can lead to digression . The service industry has billowed in the last few years. It has been a source of employment for hundred thousands of natives. The purchasing power of the common man has increased manifolds. Following huge demand for technicians in the service industry, the packages offered by the big brands in market are mind boggling. Prob...
