Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect - that is, on reasoning and other cognitive skills.

Since evolution of mankind and its metamorphosis into a capable and shrewd living organism the surroundings have played an inalienable role for man. The society in which an individual dwells reflects the outlook of the individual and shapes hiss approach towards life. The living society is indisputable a major considering factor that entrust upon a man’s intentions. But does one’s society always dissuade an individual’s intellect, i.e. its reasoning and cognitive skills?

I would contrast the statement propounded b the author. The role and significance of society on an individual is paramount. But society does not always impediment an individual’s intellectual growth. The intellectual growth of an individual may prosper or stall depending on the relative social background. One may flourish who is a part of a modern and non-insular society whereas somebody who has been living in a society where issues like AIDS and sex-education are still considered a taboo, he may be restricted in his mental prophecy.

Moreover, to exemplify the statement the muslim community abiding in southern-Asia where more stress is laid upon culture, religion and jingoism, its difficult for an individual to look beyond the restricted freedom and challenge the authority in search of reasoning. There are places in countries like Pakistan where sex-education and AIDS are still considered a taboo and the toddlers are instilled within a dogma to keep alienated from such discussions. Rather than making people aware of the hazards of a stigma like AIDS they are refrained from crucial education and reasoning that furthers their probability to be a victim of the killer malaise. Moreover, students in religious schools famously known as madarassas are taught religious and moral lessons rather than intellectual subjects like science mathematics, software development that demand reasoning. The chauvinists tyrannically oppose intellectual growth and it is difficult to challenge the society as he would be regarded as a maverick and rendered severe punishment. If the society continues to propound such insular and longitudinal approach, it is difficult for an individual to attain intellectual prosperity.

Contrastingly, somebody who is born in a scholar and urbane background is accessible to modern beliefs and technology. The education imparted to an individual is based on reasoning and abandoning the archaic beliefs that still elude most of the societies of intellectual width. In this case, the society plays a major role in enhancing and polishing an individual’s intellectual growth. The children are confronted to issues like sex and AIDS alongside moral and religious education. Focus is laid to impart scientific, mathematical, logical and quantitative knowledge so that an individual can adapt a cognitive approach towards life. It encourages a broader outlook towards life, instills scientific beliefs and disavowal of insular beliefs.

To sum up, society at large is responsible for shaping an individual’s intellectual growth. But to abide by the statement that society at large does not place enough emphasis on the intellect and impediments reasoning and other cognitive skills is improper. Wherein an insular society would circumscribe an individual’s outlook, a broad and progressive society would encourage an individual to approach a scientific and reason based approach towards life and disparages the insular beliefs. Thus it is important for society in large to encourage and look forth to radical ideas and beliefs that provide an impetus to the intellectual growth amongst its people.

In search of Happiness!

Vyolet was one of the tiniest and innocent rats living in the jungles of Tabrris. Tabrris was a remote land inhabited by tiny creatures and they would all live in peace and harmony. It was a small jungle where all the animals, birds and insects cohabitated and shared their bliss and misery. Vyolet as a kid never went to school and was a joyous and funny looking animal who always wanted to live a nonchalant life, unconcerned about fame and prosperity. Vyolet would happily live upon the blueberries and the walnuts dismantled from the trees by the violent winds coming from the west. He, like all other animals living in Tabrris would never succumb to the desires of luxury and popularity and was jubilantly performing his jester acts and earning love and respect from the forest animals. Adjoining the jungles of Tabrris was the jungle of Tethis. The animals of Tabrris believed that the land of Tethis was jinxed and the residing creatures imbued immense arrogance, snobbism and did not share an...

The closest octagon

This entry is dedicated (sounds mourning, isn’t it); or rather written to honor my closest and dearest chums at Infy. Don’t exactly know where to begin from. But I would like to reincarnate the memories of Hyderabad. Remember the day when we got news of our postings after an extended training at Infosys Mysore. The fairytale starts with a bus ride from Mysore to Hyderabad. A fleet of approx 80 Finaclites, all filled with joy of clearing their compre’s; stepping into their professional careers. I was completely ignorant that a tenth of them would glue together so amazingly that their lives would be entwined in a manner that the threads would always mingle with the present; wherever future takes them and whatever the past impinges upon. The stay at the Woodbridge hotel culminated in moving into our new apartment. Three new folks from different regions, best buddies from college days. I was completely new to their company and not being a hosteller my entire life, brought in varying perspe...

Relativity!

This comes from the heart of India – Purani Delhi . Rajvir grew up amidst the hustle-bustle of the screeching Chandni Chowk , undoubtedly the most chaotic part of north India. Being the only son of the eldest brother amongst his father’s siblings, responsibilities and abiding by them had been an inherited trait for Rajvir. Rajvir’s life had been all about books, household chores and a seldom game of cricket in the inaccessible galis of Ballimaran . Rajvir’s father accumulated money for his only son to ensure he received the best education and a satisfying career. Rajvir went to an international school where his classmates would be offspring of the wealthiest and most influential personalities of Delhi and NCR. He always saw them happy, carefree and ignorant about the problems that existed in a poor man’s household. His family could barely pull out his tuition and he was proud of the sacrifices that his parents did for him. Wherein he saw his schoolmates being driven to school...
