In search of Happiness!

Vyolet was one of the tiniest and innocent rats living in the jungles of Tabrris. Tabrris was a remote land inhabited by tiny creatures and they would all live in peace and harmony. It was a small jungle where all the animals, birds and insects cohabitated and shared their bliss and misery. Vyolet as a kid never went to school and was a joyous and funny looking animal who always wanted to live a nonchalant life, unconcerned about fame and prosperity. Vyolet would happily live upon the blueberries and the walnuts dismantled from the trees by the violent winds coming from the west. He, like all other animals living in Tabrris would never succumb to the desires of luxury and popularity and was jubilantly performing his jester acts and earning love and respect from the forest animals.

Adjoining the jungles of Tabrris was the jungle of Tethis. The animals of Tabrris believed that the land of Tethis was jinxed and the residing creatures imbued immense arrogance, snobbism and did not share any bonding with their fellowmen and rather envied each other. The animals of Tabrris feared to cross the boundary and enter the region of Tethis and so did the insects and birds. The birds ensured that they never took a flight too far that could inadvertently make them gaze into the land of Tethis; such was the fear that crept into their souls. Vyolet being the innocent of them all believed that he could turn around any creature to his side by his crazy little acts and by getting involved in their life. Once night that eclipsed the moonlight, Vyolet decided to sneak into the regions of Tethis and refute the long old belief that the creatures of Tabrris were living with.

The first step into the unexplored territory was astounding and fascinating for Vyolet. All homes had a boundary, well guarded and protected to prevent intrusion. And all homes had trees bearing fruits, almonds and cranberries that looked very enticing. All the creatures living in Tethis had a sense of style, dignity and a charm that was unparalleled. Vyolet soon found a place in the valley where he could present his tricks and was easily accessible from a large part of Tethis. At the end of the performance, the happy onlookers would raise applause and present Vyolet with fruits, almonds and cranberries from their courtyards. Vyolet was overwhelmed with the adoration and ovation that he received from the animals of Tethis. One fine evening when Vyolet was accumulating the collections of his performance, Gracie – a young beautiful mouse who lived in the woods of Tethis came and sat besides Vyolet. Vyolet was dumbstruck looking into the deep blue eyes of Gracie that were serene and reflected a glimpse of the entire universe. Gracie introduced herself to Vyolet and appreciated his acts that made the inhabitants of Tethis lighthearted and made them relinquish all their fatigue and miseries. She would be an active participant to all of Vyolet’s performances and would always have encouraging words in abundance for his new tricks. She instilled within Vyolet a spirit to excel and be a master of his prowess, so that he could constructively utilize his skills and benefit from it. Vyolet worked incessantly in order to improve his performances and to pull more crowds and accomplish further. He accumulated a lot of wealth, fame and respect from the denizens of Tethis and his perception about Tethis had totally changed. He no longer felt the need to go back to Tabrris, where he had spent the most of his life living amidst a carefree, jovial and compassionate community.

Over a period of time, Vyolet had mounted enough to last his lifetime and yet leaving abundance for the progeny to experience a regal lifestyle. But he had been accustomed to the applause and offerings that would ignite his desire to keep performing better. After some years, his tricks became mundane and didn’t have enough centripetal force to attract crowds in huge numbers. It started to overcome him and he wasn’t able to find bliss within the materialistic world of Tethis. When he looked around, he could only see his shadow - distinct and unmerged with any object of Tethis. He could recall his advent of exploration where he could see the boundaries that restricted any inbound access. He felt miserable to not recognize the omens that indicated him to traverse the route back. Down and trodden, he wanted to move back to Tabrris but was intimidated by the probable reaction of his fellows whom he had left behind to discover a new secret world but was consumed by the elements of the materialistic world.

Having none other option than return abode, Vyolet sneaked his way back to Tabrris and soon reached the territory where he would exhibit his tricks and a swarm of jungle mates gathered to experience the same performance every day, yet applauded with an unflagging intensity and enthusiasm. Vyolet stood stationary at the spot, lost in nostalgia and humbled by his deeds until he realized that his old pals and acquaintances had gathered all around him – over the logs, hills, branches; occupying the best seating arrangement from where they could have their attention spotted over him. Vyolet could not believe his eyes and squatted in the center of the virtual amphitheatre pleading forgiveness. The crowd rather screeched, loud and vibrant, wanting Vyolet to hit the stage with his majestic tricks. Vyolet was enthused by their motivational response and set off firing all cylinders and unveiling all the tricks in his repertoire that he had amassed over the years. The crowd was fascinated by the performance and Vyolet could see the glitter in their eyes and amusement on their faces. Following the proceedings, the crowd gathered around Vyolet and lifted him up and chanted their glory song. Vyolet had received the ultimate prize for his prowess and found the true happiness that eluded him over the years.

The closest octagon

This entry is dedicated (sounds mourning, isn’t it); or rather written to honor my closest and dearest chums at Infy. Don’t exactly know where to begin from. But I would like to reincarnate the memories of Hyderabad. Remember the day when we got news of our postings after an extended training at Infosys Mysore. The fairytale starts with a bus ride from Mysore to Hyderabad. A fleet of approx 80 Finaclites, all filled with joy of clearing their compre’s; stepping into their professional careers. I was completely ignorant that a tenth of them would glue together so amazingly that their lives would be entwined in a manner that the threads would always mingle with the present; wherever future takes them and whatever the past impinges upon. The stay at the Woodbridge hotel culminated in moving into our new apartment. Three new folks from different regions, best buddies from college days. I was completely new to their company and not being a hosteller my entire life, brought in varying perspe...

Relativity!

This comes from the heart of India – Purani Delhi . Rajvir grew up amidst the hustle-bustle of the screeching Chandni Chowk , undoubtedly the most chaotic part of north India. Being the only son of the eldest brother amongst his father’s siblings, responsibilities and abiding by them had been an inherited trait for Rajvir. Rajvir’s life had been all about books, household chores and a seldom game of cricket in the inaccessible galis of Ballimaran . Rajvir’s father accumulated money for his only son to ensure he received the best education and a satisfying career. Rajvir went to an international school where his classmates would be offspring of the wealthiest and most influential personalities of Delhi and NCR. He always saw them happy, carefree and ignorant about the problems that existed in a poor man’s household. His family could barely pull out his tuition and he was proud of the sacrifices that his parents did for him. Wherein he saw his schoolmates being driven to school...
