"GMAT" - the simple acronym gives me goose-bumps when I think about it. I heard it early since my boyhood days but never bothered to find out what it stands for. The last few semesters at my university when almost everybody had decided to tame the CAT, I was still enjoying and having a time of my life. But recently when I thought of doing my masters abroad and probably an MBA, the GMAT saga was resurrected.
This time around, I made an earnest effort to know the intricacies of GMAT. First of all, I found out that it stands for some "Graduate Management Admission Test". I was enlightened to know that and felt as if I attained Salvation. But this was not the end of the story. I had to dig deep into the pit to gather some more information. Searching for the acronym on Google gave me around some 7,500,000 results. Gosh! Got an impression that the entire world, except me had taken the exam atleast once in their lifetime. I was more than mere guilty to have not taken up the exam yet.
Then I started drilling about the format, the application process, the profile required and finally the B-schools that will if not feel honoured by admitting me, but atleast do me a favour. My journey has begun! I am planning to apply for the 2008 batch.
Got to know from a friend of mine, that her sis got admission into Cornell, NY. "What a big deal" was my initial reaction. Then I just perused through the Internet and find out actually what Cornell is. It didn't even exist in the figment of my imagination that it would be No.14 in US B-school rankings. And moreover, she was just fresh out of college with no work-ex at all. So that was an anathema to the feedback that I got through www and pals "Work ex and a good job profile is a must!". Curdles my blood and I desperately want to get into the psyche of those sitting and examining the applications and know "What the hell are you looking for in a candidate?" In the current scenario, an answer to this question would bring me more satisfaction than getting an Onsite opportunity! Another friend of mine is taking his GMAT on 5th of February. I might have done something good in life, that God has sent a messiah (or rather a scapegoat) who will take his exam and provide me with valuable feedback and material! hehe.. Just kidding. He is one of my closest, and I sincerely wish him good luck and success so that all his hard work and perseverance is eventually fruitful. God bless him!
Don't know how much slogging and research its gonna take, but doing it alongside the job of a SE is gonna take a humongous sacrifice. I will have to cut out on movies, exercise, dining out and trips back home. But presently this is the only thing that keeps my neurons occupied, day-in and night-outs. May God give me energy and motivation to achieve my so called targets.
