Cholle Bhature !!!

As in Rome do as Romans do. Totally agreeable. That's what I have been doing for the past 18 months. But unfortunately Bangalore is not commensurate to Rome. Its been a long while thriving on idlis , dosas , khara baths and many such commodities(cant term them as food items) that miss out the rudimentary punjabi taste. Whenever I get back to Delhi I get so excited to visit the renowned Chotti Hatti (renowned only in our part of the city) to have the oiliest and yummiest of Cholle Bhature . The delectable pakvaan resurrects memories of school days when we used to bunk classes and rush through a plate of it. Makes one nostalgic about the boyhood days. But I am glad that the same flavour in the Cholle Bhature still exists. I have planned to visit many such dhabas and eatouts all over the city during my visit. It will be 10 beautiful days and I wanna make the most of opportunities to eat a lot and hang around with old pals. Friends and family are cajoling me to get back to ...

India Poised or Ephemeral Pleasures ?

What great achievements by India in the recent past. The multibillion takeovers by the Tatas , Ranbaxys , Birlas and many more. Sustaining growth at over 9% is commendable. Foreign investers vying to foray into Indian markets. Government eying SEZ options beacons humongous growth. Its been a resounding victory for the individuals and the nation. The passion to perform and zeal to excel is conspicuous. 2006 is mere history. Are all the milestones achieved? Will the existing market scenario coast the nation towards Development? Although Indians are regarded as a highly productive and cost-efficient force by the west, excessive megalomania can lead to digression . The service industry has billowed in the last few years. It has been a source of employment for hundred thousands of natives. The purchasing power of the common man has increased manifolds. Following huge demand for technicians in the service industry, the packages offered by the big brands in market are mind boggling. Prob...

My tryst with Maths!

The journey has begun. Have gathered a lot of information and study material . My earnest attempt would be to wrap up the Nova's GMAT Prep Course within 6 weeks. Have started with Mathematics. Maths has always been my forte. Getting 90% accuracy on the first attempt. But its just the beginning. Wanna stretch that figure close to 100. The destination is a lot further than it foretells . The area I will have to slog on is Data Sufficiency. Never ever handled such problems at school or university. Statistics and charts give me nightmares. Being a colorblind it would be difficult for me to judge different colours on the chart. Pondering how humiliated people would have felt when discriminated on basis of Colour. Feeling like one of them now.. The 'that' and 'who' concept still amuses me. I wonder why the schools demand the manager to have a fetish for such little concepts. Practice, practice and more practice. That is what is required. Will have to set some deadlines fo...

Resilience favours the Student.

Finished your bachelors in Information and Technology and excited with the grades. Working in an IT organization you believe that you have a penchant for the Investment Banking sector. Intending to do your masters in IB. Just imagine if you are withheld from the same as some stringent law states that students are not allowed to take courses outside their fields. What impact will it have on your life? It would make you feel miserable and would thwart your progress. Should the opportunities of a student be confined to a limited domain? It would stymie and individual’s mental and economic growth. The world would seem like a nutshell and the scope of improvement and development would be restrained. Business domains have a close crosslink with each other. They cannot exist in isolation. Exemplifying the fact, a company that provides a software product to a bank for all its operations, requires stalwarts from the finance sector to help out the techies understand the intricacies of the bankin...

LUCKY.. By Prof. Richard Wiseman, University of Hertfordshire

Ten years ago, I set out to examine luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experience ill fortune. I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky to contact me. Hundreds of extraordinary men and women volunteered for my research and over the years, I have interviewed them, monitored their lives and had them take part in experiments. The results reveal that although these people have almost no insight into the causes of their luck, their thoughts and behavior are responsible for much of their good and bad fortune. Take the case of seemingly chance opportunities. Lucky people consistently encounter such opportunities, whereas unlucky people do not. I carried out a simple experiment to discover whether this was due to differences in their ability to spot such opportunities. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to look through it an...

Banglore burns, yet Again!

What are Karnataka and Tamil Nadu quarreling about? That’s one question common amongst the adolescents in the country. Do they have a border dispute, just like Kashmir and Pakistan? The answer to these questions is ‘Water’. No rewards for guessing what expression they’ll have on their faces when they know the reality. They are still naïve and do not understand the political intricacies attached to such incidents. Every individual would be having his own opinion about the incident. And they might have let their emotions errupt. Girish is one amongst them. But no guesses why he has been made a scapegoat of the Cauvery verdict. It’s just because he is a well known figure and the statement made by him is not in sync with the fellow Kannadigas. The fact is that Kannadigas are highly sentimental sect of the society. They have their own way of expression emotion – whether grief, sorrow, excitement or anger. Whether it’s related to sudden death of an eponymous film star, kidnapping of a region...

The Mod[Y/I] Factor.

It would be incommensurate to put together a few words of solace for the loss occurred to the Mody’s. The heart and soul is outraged on imagining how the Mody’s would have been carrying this indelible Godhra incident alongside them for the past five years. They have spent these five incessant years in search of their teenaged son Azhar. Any form of social amelioration or establishments of Foundations can be fruitful for Gujarat. Or infact, it can prove more beneficial for Narendrabhai’s political stranglehold in Gujarat. But will these sops be able to bring a smile back on the Mody’s? Will it be able to erase the indelible imprints left onto the Mody’s? But the Gujarat government would be nonchalant of these facts until the next elections arrive. I watched the interview with the Mody’s on NDTV alongside the Parzania cast. It was a nostalgic moment for the entire nation to resurrect the horrific memories of 2002. But to keep the Mody’s alive by the fact that their son will be back somed...

Racism or Entertainment?

The expressions by the Indian beauties at pageants, appalled by the joy of victory have been passé. Shilpa Shetty just tried to imitate a similar act, yet in a different fashion. All the melodrama about the racism prevalent in the English society is just another media gimmick to attract world recognition. She was victorious using her stereotype emotions to a good extent and grabbing into her kitty a huge cash prize along with lots of accolades from around the world. Indians have being accustomed to such dramatic gestures ever since their boyhood days. The sops and the film industry have provided an essence of all types of emotions; austere to astute, one could ever imagine. I would like to describe the recent hue-and cry as a cheap publicity stunt to attain global recognition. Racism in India has been existing since ages. Rather, it has been a customary constituent ever since the early Aryan Civilization. Its still prominent in the existing society. The riots in Gujarat a few years bac...

The GMAT labyrinth !!!

"GMAT" - the simple acronym gives me goose-bumps when I think about it. I heard it early since my boyhood days but never bothered to find out what it stands for. The last few semesters at my university when almost everybody had decided to tame the CAT, I was still enjoying and having a time of my life. But recently when I thought of doing my masters abroad and probably an MBA, the GMAT saga was resurrected. This time around, I made an earnest effort to know the intricacies of GMAT. First of all, I found out that it stands for some "Graduate Management Admission Test". I was enlightened to know that and felt as if I attained Salvation. But this was not the end of the story. I had to dig deep into the pit to gather some more information. Searching for the acronym on Google gave me around some 7,500,000 results. Gosh! Got an impression that the entire world, except me had taken the exam atleast once in their lifetime. I was more than mere guilty to have not taken up ...

India's Silicon Valley Bandh.

Appaled by the header. Equivocal, but thats what our lives have turned into. The opinion of one's life has different meanings for oneself and the leaders. The caption does not denote that India's silicon valley has ceased to exist. It just reveals that a statewide bandh has been imposed over it. Taking off the sack at 12 noon would have never been on the agenda of a Software Engineer. A long weekend to say the least. Havent felt so restless in life before. Cant go out to buy a carton of milk or get myself cup of tea. There is no newspaper at the doorstep. The TV channels are off the air. Just get a feeling, the world might have ended. Whats the real fuss all about? Is it only because that the judiciary granted access to a neighbouring landmass for a little of the natural resource indigenous to our state? It might be simple to put it across in words, but the outcome is really devastating. The zest to do something productive in life has been stymied. Get a feeling of being fetter...

Number plates or Techno Plates?

A few decades ago, who might have imagined the importance of scanning devices used in food bazars for billing commodities. Scanners placed at exit doors of shopping malls to prevent pick-pocketing. Scanners used in liabaries to track issue transactions. Scanners-scanners everywhere. The recent of them all is the promulgation of scanner installation at entrances and exits of toll roads to obviate the need for the toll booths. Incredible?? But true. Hitherto, service guards were employed at toll booths to control the flow of vehicles across either lane. The drivers had to stop the vehicle, pay the toll tax, and then get back to the accelerator to hush through the smooth toll roads. Automobiles will now have scanner-sensitive number plates so that the scanning devices will record the licence number of the cars entering and exiting the toll road. After bringing the new technology into practice, the bill management would become quite simpler. It proves beneficial for the traveller as well....
